Italian pension in Morocco: pension and proof of life
Living in Morocco while drawing an Italian pension mixes two worlds that are often confused: the pension itself, and consular papers. Keeping them apart avoids mistakes, and sometimes needless cost.
This page explains what belongs to which, the proof-of-life certificate not to miss, and why papers in order protect your pension. It does not advise on your case: it points you to the right door.
Two different things: the pension, and the papers
The pension belongs to INPS and Italian social security. Consular papers, instead, are the passport, AIRE and civil status, handled by the competent office. They are two separate tracks.
Many retirees go to the wrong counter, or pay someone for what should have gone elsewhere. Knowing who does what is half the work.
The proof-of-life certificate
To keep receiving a pension abroad you must periodically prove you are alive: the proof-of-life certificate. Missing it can lead to a suspension of payment until you put it right.
This step assumes you are reachable and correctly registered. It is one of the few things not to let slide: the up-to-date details are on the official sources, below.
For the pension itself: the free patronati
Calculating, claiming, reversing or revising an Italian pension is the patronati's trade, and that service is free. It is their role, and they do it well.
We do not handle pension cases and we charge nothing for it. If your question is about the pension, the right reflex is to turn to a patronato. We are glad to point you there.
Papers in order keep the pension smooth
A correct AIRE, a valid passport and a current civil status make everything else simpler, including the pension side. Neglected papers, by contrast, end up creating friction at the worst moment.
Seeing AIRE as the base, and keeping it current, stops small things becoming big blocks when you are 70 and far away.
The most common pitfalls
The most common: forgetting the proof-of-life certificate and risking a suspension, becoming unreachable, letting AIRE drift, or paying a third party for what a patronato does for free.
